Divine sixth-plate post-mortem ambrotype of a boy lovingly cradled in his hidden mother’s arms one last time.  At first glance one might think he is posed upright on a fabric covered chair but the ambrotypist has skillfully arranged this image with a throw covering most of his suit that blends perfectly with the mother’s voluminous black dress. We have added a scan without the mat to confirm our initial suspicions when we purchased this piece.  A plain, paneled wall in the background also suggests this was done at the family home.  The young boy looks at peace with his transition, thanks once again to the photographer. This is a touching image that warms our heart in the fact that the mother had this one last fleeting moment with her son forever captured with this ambrotype.  The image is in excellent condition with lovely tones and contrast. It is housed in a full case.
